富岡製糸場で世界文化遺産の調査
ＮＧＯのイコモス＝ＩＣＯＭＯＳが２５日と２６日、群馬県にある「富岡製糸場と絹産業遺産群」で調査を行いました。この調査の結果は、ユネスコ＝ＵＮＥＳＣＯが世界文化遺産を決めるときにとても大事だと言われています。調査を行う人が日本へ来て、富岡製糸場や建物などを見ました。富岡製糸場は明治５年（１８７２年）に国が作った初めての製糸工場です。ここでいい糸をたくさん生産して外国に輸出して、世界に絹を広めることに役に立ちました。ユネスコに富岡製糸場などを世界文化遺産にしてほしいと言っています。イコモスは調査のあと、世界文化遺産にしたほうがいいかどうかの意見をまとめて、来年の５月ごろにユネスコに出します。そして、来年のユネスコの会議で富岡製糸場などが世界文化遺産になるかどうかが決まります。A survey on establishing Tomioka Silk Mill as a World Cultural Heritage siteOn September 25th and 26th, an NGO (ICOMOS) began their survey on “Tomioka Silk Mill and Related Industrial Heritage” based in Gunma. The result of the survey is said to be very important when UNESCO decides the World Cultural Heritage site. The personnel in charge came to Japan and have seen the Silk Mill and related buildings.Tomioka Silk Mill was the first silk factory since the country was founded in Meiji 5 (1872). This factory exported lots of good quality threads and was instrumental in the growing use of silk around the world. UNESCO said that it hopes to establish Tomioka Silk Mill and its like as a world cultural heritage.After ICOMOS’s survey, opinions were gathered on whether it is a good idea to establish the Tomioka Silk Mill as a world cultural heritage. The results will be released in May next year. Subsequently, UNESCO will make the decision on establishing the Tomioka Silk Mill as a world cultural heritage in its conference next year.

少なくなったクロマグロ 取る数を減らす考え
水産庁は、マグロの中でいちばん人気があるクロマグロの数が少なくなってきたことについて話し合う会議を開きました。漁業をしている人など約３５０人が出席しました。
水産庁の宮原正典さんは「国際的な調査によると、太平洋のクロマグロは１９９５年ごろから毎年少なくなって、今まで最も少なかった１９８０年代の１万８０００ｔと同じぐらいになっています。今のやり方でクロマグロを取り続けた場合、もっと少なくなる心配があります」と説明しました。
そして、クロマグロの数が増えるように、どうやって取る数を減らすかをこれからの１年で考えて、再来年からそのやり方で行うという考えを話しました。
会議に出席した人からは「水産庁の考えはいいと思います」という声や「これからどうやって仕事をしていくか、今は考えることができません」と心配する声が出ていました。
クロマグロについては、もっとしっかり数を管理したほうがいいという意見が世界でも多くなってきています。水産庁は、来月福岡である国際会議で日本の考えを説明することにしています。

Thoughts on diminishing harvest of the Pacific bluefin tuna
The Japanese Fisheries Agency have held a conference to discuss on the issue of diminishing numbers of Pacific bluefin tuna, which is the most popular species among the tuna family.
Approximately 350 people from the fishing industry attended this conference.
Mr. Miyahara Masanori, who works as the Japanese Fisheries Agency, explained, "According to global research, the population of Pacific bluefin tuna has been decreasing annually since 1995, and has reached the same levels as the lowest recorded number of 18000 tonnes of Pacific bluefin tuna in the 1980. There are concerns that the number of Pacific bluefin tuna will drop further if we continue with current level of fishing activity."
Therefore, to increase the population of Pacific bluefin tuna, discussions are held to consider what could be done in the next year, to execute an action plan in the following year.
According to the attendees of the conference, some remarked, "I think that the considerations of the Japanese Fisheries Agency are excellent", while some voiced their concerns saying, "I am unable to think about how this will affect my job from here forth."
This topic of Pacific bluefin tuna has received increasing global attention that it will be favourable to impose more severe restrictions to limit the numbers. The Japanese Fisheries Agency will announce the considerations of Japan in the upcoming international conference held at Fukuoka next month.

Unprecedented number of more than 1 million foreigners
visited Japan in July
The Japan National
Tourist Organization have announced that there were a total of 1,003,000
foreigners visiting Japan for work and travel.
This is the first
time that the numbers of foreign visitors reached more than 1 million, since
the tracking started 49 years ago.
The reasons were the
continuously weakening yen as well as the loosening visa rules for 5
countries last month.
Among the countries
with easier visa rules, the visitor numbers of Thailand, Vietnam and Malaysia
saw an increase of 84.7%, 59.4% and 25.2% respectively as compared to July
last year.
A record number of
visitors were also seen from Taiwan and Hongkong, in which there was an
increase in chartered flights.
The Japan National
Tourist Organization said, “
The number of
foreign visitors to Japan has increased from February this year as compared
to the months in the previous year. We wish to continue spreading the beauty
of Japan.”
